NEW AAIP-Tourism and Hospitality Stream is OPEN

Alberta’s tourism and hospitality industry plays a crucial role in driving economic expansion and job generation, particularly in rural regions and communities beyond major urban hubs.

The new AAIP-stream will give priority to a limited number of applications, assisting businesses in recruiting and retaining vital personnel, thus strengthening the economy.

The AAIP plans to give out at least 659 nomination certificates for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream in 2024. They’ll first accept up to 500 applications, and then later they may open it again to reach the target number of nominations for the year. The AAIP can only give out a limited number of certificates each year across all their programs, and they decide how many they’ll give out based on what the economy needs.

NB: If you already have an application in progress with the AAIP, you can’t apply for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream.

To be able to apply for this program you should meet the following eligibility criteria:

Current Employment:

• Living and working in Alberta in an eligible occupation for an approved Tourism and Hospitality employer.
• Have a valid work permit based on a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for an eligible occupation. (PGWP and Open Work Permit holders are not eligible)

Work Experience:

Before submitting your application, you must have been working full-time with an approved Tourism and Hospitality employer, in one of the eligible occupations, for a minimum of six continuous months.

Job offer or employment contract should contain:

• From the same employer with whom you had the 6 continuous months.
• Full-time and paid employment (30h per week).
• The wages and benefits should meet the provincial minimum wage.

Language:

• Minimum of 4 for each English language skill, or
• Minimum of 4 for each French language skill

Education:

A minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards.
